MATERIALIZED
Materialized is an ongoing musical collaboration built on the core of a lifelong friendship between Grammy Award winning keyboardist (Mighty) Dave Pellicciaro and drummer Dale Fanning.
Based in Oakland, CA the band builds their energized sound on big beats and sonic scapes. To keep the music constantly growing they engage a revolving cast of talent for their live shows ranging from a powerhouse two-man match to trios, full band with a horn section, singers, video and dancers including their main associate, Cuban-born bassist Carlitos Del Puerto (Bruce Springsteen, Herbie Hancock).

Love In The Circus
Love in the Circus features unique and seductive melodies that combine and blur the lines of electronica, rock, jazz and blues with sultry, edgy, museful hooks.
The group was formed by singer/bassist Leanna Rachel and producer/guitarist Chris Brickler. Curtis Cunningham joined the group on drums, Eric Hargett on keys/saxophone and Cha Chi on percussion/synths. The High Priestess and Leah Zeger add beautiful textures on the harp and violin, respectively.

iTunes Match Is Alive

Well, it is finally here. Apple‘s online cloud music storage is here to compete with services from Amazon and Google. Now, for $24.99 per year, Apple will scan your computer and match as many tracks as they can to their iTunes Store library. Once a track is matched it becomes available to every device that is synced with your Apple iCloud account. iTunes Match also automatically upgrades all lower quality tracks you may have to 256-Kbps quality. A pretty nice upgrade for those of  you who have really old 128-Kbps tracks from the early days of Napster and other music sharing services.

The main advantage iTunes Match has over other music cloud services right now is probably the fact that when you sign up with the service you don’t have to upload your whole music library contents to their servers. This is due to the fact that Apple has been able to sign agreements with major music labels which permits them to simply match your tracks against their own extensive music library. This saves everyone a lot of time and bandwidth when setting up and maintaining the service.

To use iTunes Match, first download the latest version of iTunes. Then, open up the Store sidebar, where you’ll find the iTunes Match feature. After paying for the service, Match will index your music and match as many tracks as it can with Apple’s library. After everything is matched, you can enable the feature on all your other iOS devices by going to the “Music” tab in the devices Settings. Slide iTunes Match to “on,” and you should be good to go. Your iOS device will begin syncing your music and playlists; and songs will download to your device as you play them.

Elvis Costello Tells Fans NOT To Buy His $225 Box Set

Well, it’s the holiday season, and people are out purchasing gifts for themselves and others. It is the perfect time for CD box sets to come out, which is why Universal Music Enterprises has released Costello’s box set, “Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook.” The box set includes three CDs, a vinyl record, a concert DVD and a 40-page coffee table book; but it costs $225. Costello says that this amount of money is a “hoax” and recommends that if fans really want certain parts of the box set they should just wait until after the holidays when they might be able to purchase individual items separately. He also went on to explain that he tried to get the record label to lower the price, but they would not budge. So, he actually ended up recommending another artist’s works for the holiday season, releasing the following statements:

“Unfortunately, we at www.elviscostello.com find ourselves unable to recommend this lovely item to you as the price appears to be either a misprint or a satire…. If you should really want to buy something special for your loved one at this time of seasonal giving, we can whole-heartedly recommend, ‘Ambassador of Jazz‘ — a cute little imitation suitcase, covered in travel stickers and embossed with the name ‘Satchmo’ but more importantly containing TEN re-mastered albums by one of the most beautiful and loving revolutionaries who ever lived – Louis Armstrong. The box should be available for under one hundred and fifty American dollars and includes a number of other tricks and treats. Frankly, the music is vastly superior.”

Bravo, Elvis. Well done. However, if fans still wish to purchase the whole Costello box set, Music Sumo would like you all to know that you will be able to find it cheaper on Amazon. Starting December 6th, you should be able to find it for about $202, here. There’s a little gift of savings for you from Music Sumo!

Katy Perry’s Not Pregnant. She Loves Drinking Too Much.

Yesterday, I found this post from the wonderful guys at Thrillcall talking about Katy Perry possibly being pregnant. Seems that Katy might have mentioned something at a recent show at Madison Square Garden and she has also been showing a little bit of a bulge. With these recent reports popping up, Katy took the chance to set the record straight while on the red carpet at the American Music Awards by stating,

“I still love drinking alcohol so not yet…. I like In-N-Out Burger and Taco Bell and if you want to make that pregnant that’s your problem.”

I’m still not totally convinced though. Even if she was pregnant she might not want to admit it right away, and she can play off the eating and drinking story a little too easily. I think there might be more to come. We’ll see in a few months I guess.

Spotify Has Landed In The US!

If you are in the know, then you have probably heard about Spotify. Spotify is a wonderful Swedish digital music service that was started in 2008 in an effort to offer a legal alternative to online piracy. It has been popular for while in Europe and now it has finally made it here to the US!

Spotify lets users listen to over 15 million songs on their computers and mobile devices and allows the users to upload their own music to add to the ever-growing library. Users can also create a profile to set their music preferences, to favorite artists and playlists, and to even share their playlists with their friends for them to listen to.

The best thing about Spotify is that it’s free. That’s right, you can listen to almost any current song for free. There are actually three different plans that you can choose from. Spotify currently offers a free, ad-supported version and two other subscription plans that do not display ads. A $5 per month plan lets users access Spotify on their computers without ads, and a $10 per month version allows users to also access music on their mobile devices.

I have been using Spotify for a couple of weeks now to check out new music that I would not usually listen to. It has opened my ears to some new Pop, which I’ll admit has been nice. Today, I was also listening to Sublime with Rome‘s new album, Yours Truly, and I think I might pick it up now based on what I heard.
