Noise Pop celebrates its 20th birthday in 2012, and its lineup once again features the expert curation of fresh-faced artists that we’ve come to expect: Die AntwoordBleachedGrimes and oOoOO are among the names that hit the scene recently and started making waves in a hurry. But there’s a hidden story in Noise Pop’s 2012 lineup – a slick tribute, on this notable anniversary, to its rich 20-year history of highlighting these acts on the rise. One need only look to the veterans returning to the festival’s lineup for 2012.

The Darkness premiere their first song and video in 6 years, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us"

As promised, The Darkness just released their first song in 6+ years, accompanied by a crazy technicolor animated video. It features mustache guitars, flying guitars in space, a guy with guitars for arms playing guitar, and generally any other guitar shenanigans you can think of.

Death Cab For Cutie Add 2012 tour dates

Death Cab For Cutie visited the Brooklyn Museum – “one of the more unique rooms we’ve played” – to film a Live From the Artist Den session in cooperation with SPIN magazine. Check out the performance of “You Are a Tourist” below, and stream a longer preview on Hulu, ahead of the episode’s national television premiere on February 17th, 2012.

Death Cab also expanded upon their previously announced tour dates, with extra shows added in Brooklyn and Oakland. Tickets are available for all but the Chicago date, which go on sale this Saturday.

Cypress Hill Smokeout - complete lineup

Danny Brown, Mobb Deep and MSTRKRFT are among the final round of artists added to the bill for the Cypress Hill Smokeout, which takes place March 6th, 2012 in San Bernandino, CA. They’ll join headliners Sublime with Rome, Korn and Wiz Khalifa at the day-long festival and marijuana advocacy expo.

This is the last round of lineup announcements out of Guerilla Union’s camp, so the poster above represents the complete 2012 lineup (with the promise of “surprise performances,” of course). It was also revealed that the previously billed Low End Theory set – the party at the heart of LA’s experimental hip-hop scene – will be occupying its very own stage, with founding crew Daddy Kev, Nobody, Gaslamp Killer, D-Styles and Nocando holding down the futurebeat scene the whole day through.
