Red Hot Chili Peppers rescheduled their 2012 tour dates in North America.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have been forced to reschedule their 2012 tour after frontman Anthony Kiedis injured his foot and underwent surgery to remove a “crushed sesamoid bone and correct a detached flexor tendon.” Ouch…makes me cringe just reading it.

Tickets to the old dates will still be honored for the new shows. They’ll also be recording these performances for their tour archive, which we had mixed feelings about last month.

Below is their updated schedule, with the old dates listed before the rescheduled dates.

Old — New

01/20 — 04/02 – Sunrise, FL – Bank Atlantic Center*
01/21 — 03/31 – Orlando, FL – Amway Arena*
01/23 — 03/29 – St. Petersburg, FL – St. Pete Times Forum
01/25 — 04/06 – Charlotte, NC – Time Warner Cable Arena

Rodrigo y Gabriela will go back on the road to support their new album, Area 52, due out January 23rd, 2012. The album represents the first time the couple with the dueling guitars has enlisted the help of other musicians for their records – C.U.B.A., a 13-piece Cuban orchestra, features on the upcoming release. Says Rodrigo:

“The album is called Area 52 because we felt like Mulder and Scully approaching this—it was just a crazy idea, to see if a big Cuban band could play our music, a step in the dark. We knew it was out there, everyone has heard of Area 51, but we wanted to take it a little further.”

4/03 – Seattle, WA – The Paramount Theatre
4/04 – Portland, OR – Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

The Weeknd has been confirmed to play Coachella 2012, possibly his first show in the United States.

There is perhaps no better case study of the Internet’s star-making capabilities than the career arc of Toronto’s Abel Tesfaye, better known to us as The Weeknd. Beginning with House of Balloons in March 2011, Tesfaye unleashed 3 mixtapes that circulated like wild fire, thanks to a public endorsement by Drake along the way. One year later, The Weeknd have been confirmed to appear at Coachella 2012, slated for April 13-15 and 20-22 in Indio, CA.

Remarkably, one of the biggest festivals in the US could also be his first ever show in the country. Tesfaye has performed in his hometown of Toronto, but has yet to play a show on American soil. Talk about setting a high standard – it’ll be a long time before he plays for a U.S. crowd larger than his first one.

Coachella is trickling out its 2012 lineup announcement this week, with the first…

At The Drive-In have reunited to release This Station Is Non-Operational

At The Drive-In surprised us today with an out-of-the-blue tweet announcing their reunion in 2012. It simply read: “¡ ATTENTION ! To whom it may concern: AT THE DRIVE-IN will be breaking their 11 year silence THIS STATION IS …NOW…OPERATIONAL”

After the news broke, ATDI’s official site broke under heavy traffic, but Fearless records reveals some information about their return. On May 24th, 2012, the band will release This Station Is Non-Operational, an 18-song compilation bundled with covers, BBC sessions, B-sides and a DVD of music videos and other footage compiled over the band’s 9-year history. 30-second clips and a promo landing page are on display at Fearless’ website.

ATDI have not yet announced tour plans, but with Coachella rolling out its lineup announcement, it’s fun to speculate they may show up at the festival this year. Coachella has a reputation for prompting major reunions on an annual…
