ABOUT THE BANDS:

EOTO
“With no two shows alike, fans have come to expect the unexpected. Changes in mood, energy, and inspiration are reflected—in real-time—by rhythmic and melodic shifts in the music as EOTO makes their way through a plethora of tools and techniques. The duo moves effortlessly from choppy dubstep to whip-smart, four-on-the-floor house to psychedelic trip-hop. It’s a dance marathon, but everyone’s in it together.

MATERIALIZED
Materialized is an ongoing musical collaboration built on the core of a lifelong friendship between Grammy Award winning keyboardist (Mighty) Dave Pellicciaro and drummer Dale Fanning.
Based in Oakland, CA the band builds their energized sound on big beats and sonic scapes. To keep the music constantly growing they engage a revolving cast of talent for their live shows ranging from a powerhouse two-man match to trios, full band with a horn section, singers, video and dancers including their main associate, Cuban-born bassist Carlitos Del Puerto (Bruce Springsteen, Herbie Hancock).
Materialized has released their EP CD “Songs About Music” and are dropping three fresh singles on Feb 1st. Check these high octane adventures on iTunes, CD Baby, Spotify and Pandora.

Love In The Circus
Love in the Circus features unique and seductive melodies that combine and blur the lines of electronica, rock, jazz and blues with sultry, edgy, museful hooks.
The group was formed by singer/bassist Leanna Rachel and producer/guitarist Chris Brickler. Curtis Cunningham joined the group on drums, Eric Hargett on keys/saxophone and Cha Chi on percussion/synths. The High Priestess and Leah Zeger add beautiful textures on the harp and violin, respectively.

Why do we go out to concerts? Most people go to hear a band they like. For some it’s an activity just to get them out of their house. And for others they have no choice because their “friend” drags them out–and that’s cool too. We often write about bands music fans would want to see, and certainly, not everyone is that particular. So in the next few weeks we plan to showcase venues that fans can enjoy for more than just the music. Here’s our guide to venues for the casual music fans.

The Boom Boom Room

1601 Fillmore Street  San Francisco, CA 94115

Opened by the legendary John Lee Hooker, who named the venue after his most successful hit song “Boom Boom,” at the Boom Boom Room you might hear some blues–but you’re more likely to get swept up onto the dance floor. This isn’t a sit down or head…

Sea of Dreams New Year's Eve 2012

2012 is almost upon us, and if you’re like me and my friends, you’re bickering over 6 different New Years Eve plans floating around. Well, allow us to confuse you even more. Here’s Thrillcall’s recommendations of the best concerts on New Years Eve in San Francisco to ring in 2012:

Primus – “Hawaiian Hukilau” at Great American Music Hall

  • Who: Primus
  • When: Doors 8pm / Show 9pm
  • Where: Great American Music Hall, 859 O’Farrell (at Polk)
  • Tickets

Les Claypool’s annual New Years Eve party is a thing of legends, which explains why it sold out the Great American Music Hall weeks before the end of the year – but if you can pony up cash for resale tickets or slip in at the door, you’ll enjoy one of the weirdest parties to exist in this already-very-weird city. This should carry that extra special reunion vibe considering 2011’s Green Naugahyde was Primus’…

Todd Shaw, aka Too $hort, has been accused of grabbing a woman’s breasts at Yoshi’s Jazz Club in San Francisco on March 6. Kenya Winston claims that Too $hort made vulgar comments to her before reaching down from the stage and grabbing her breasts. She filed a police report four days after the incident, but no charges were brought against him at that time. She then contacted her attorneys soon after, and they filed a sexual battery lawsuit on her behalf. According to Daniel Dean, her attorney:

“Ms. Winston is a hardworking mother who just wanted to treat herself to a fun night out. What Too $hort did was reprehensible and our goal is to hold him accountable…. We understand Too $hort, he’s a rapper and a lot of his lyrics are vulgar and what he says onstage is vulgar. Those are his First Amendment rights. But to reach down and grab someone’s breasts?”

Joshua Binder, an attorney for Too $hort, refused to comment on the lawsuit.
