Don’t let her failed “Saturday Night Live” performances fool you; Lana Del Rey is one to watch in 2012. The singer has been the center of controversy with people questioning her plump lips to her “manufactured” image and history. The hype over Lana Del Rey was overwhelming.

Media outlets like Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum and many more pimped her for months only to frantically type hypocritical reviews that tore the album apart. But Lana Del Rey’s sophomore effort, Born To Die (released on Jan. 30) holds its own without their approval.

Unlike other aforementioned outlets that are so transfixed on the persona, this review focuses on the MUSIC and nothing else.

Here we go.

Lana Del Rey has posted clips from two songs off her forthcoming debut album “Born to Die,” which will be released on January 30th. In addition, the title track will be released as a single January 22nd. The songs, “This Is What Makes Us Girls” and “National Anthem” can be found after the jump.

Noise Pop 2012 starts on February 22, 2012.

Just announced: the Noise Pop 2012 lineup! Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the San Francisco-based music festival features Cursive and Built to Spill as headlining acts, with appearances from Die Antwoord, Grimes, and Surfer Blood representing a particularly solid early lineup this year. The festival, known for its genre-bending bills, will take place across multiple venues and dates from February 22-25, and will feature upwards of 150 artists in total.

The inimitable Shepard Fairey, founder and creative mind behind the Obey brand, is responsible for Noise Pop’s graphic design this year, which can only mean one thing: the 20th anniversary Noise Pop merch will be incredible.

Oh my goodness… I ran into this “Born This Way” video by Steve Kardynal about four months ago, and ever since then it is all I can think about when I hear this Lady GaGa song. If you don’t want to change your view of this song, then don’t watch this video because this will probably pop into your head every time you hear it. Hilarious!
